77彩票网appThe Katy Independent School District has extended spring break for at least another week while it further evaluates the new coronavirus situation in Katy and the greater Houston area.

77彩票网appThe school closures will last through at least Sunday, March 22, and may be extended depending on the situation in later days. According to a district press release, all campus events, field trips, student trips and UIL practices and competitions are on hold beginning Friday, March 13.

“Because the safety of students, staff and families is a top priority, Katy ISD have decided to act out of an abundance of caution to protect everyone’s health and wellbeing by postponing the return from spring break by at least one week,” the release said.

The decision comes from several weeks of monitoring the situation and communicating with health officials that have offered advice and guidance, according to the release.

The district release said the extra time away from school and events will allow it to continue to study and monitor how COVID-19 is spreading within the area and provide ways for those that need to self-quarantine to do so before the start of school.

Since the information and impact on the Houston area is rapidly changing, Katy ISD will release updates for students, staff and families through next week.

Although classes will be out, Katy area children ages 0 to 18 years can still get school breakfasts and lunches at the campuses listed below from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday starting on Monday, March 16, according to the district website. Enrollment in a Katy ISD school is not a requirement. All meals will be served grab and go outside the cafeteria near the school’s bus porch.
