Spring Branch ISD addresses coronavirus concerns
77彩票网appSpring Branch ISD updated students and families about ongoing plans concerning coronavirus (COVID-19) and is seeking input from those in the district.
77彩票网appThe notice comes as the district prepares to take off for Spring Break for the week of March 16-20.
77彩票网appIn a letter sent out by Linda H. Buchman, associate superintendent for community relations, the district’s plans regarding current coronavirus concerns were expressed.
77彩票网app“SBISD senior staff continues to closely monitor information concerning coronavirus (COVID-19) and follow the guidance and expertise of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), city of Houston Health Department, Harris County Public Health and Texas Department of State Health Services,” Buchman said in the letter.
Of concern to many families is what may happen to students with perfect attendance.
“Many of our schools recognize students for perfect attendance, and secondary schools have considered attendance as a criteria for final exam exemptions,” Buchman reported. “To reinforce our message that students remain at home if they are ill, we are modifying criteria for both perfect attendance and final exam exemption considerations.”
According to the letter, the perfect attendance timeline for students is now Aug. 15 through March 13. For final exams, exemptions “will now conclude as of March 13, 2020. All other campus criteria for exam exemptions will still apply.”
According to Buchman’s letter, any student who stays home due to a coronavirus-related reason will have the absence excused.
The district’s school-approved traveling will be curtailed.
“In the coming weeks, many of our students have district-approved trips scheduled with their peers and families,” Buchman reported. “As of today, March 10, 2020, out of an abundance of caution and until further notice, SBISD is revoking its approval of all domestic and international district-approved student trips.”
