77彩票网appI want to talk to you about primers, okay don’t yawn. I am going to tell you how it can make a difference in your day- to- day life. Let me tell you a story …

I bought an older, smaller home about six years ago. It was built in the 80s, and the owner had not done one thing to update it in all those years. Anyone else going through that? Well, Mr. Y (we will call him that) was a smoker, 91, and to say that the house smelled like smoke, would be a huge understatement. Mr. Y and I agreed on a price, and he moved. I had the house remodeled. I stripped all the flooring, and removed all the texture from the ceiling. I primed and painted every wall. Everything was done except the kitchen. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, so instead of making a mistake I thought I would “live in it” for a while to really see what I wanted to do. But there was a problem. Whenever I would leave for a couple of days, I could smell Mr. Y’s cigarette smoke as soon as I came in the back door. Well for the life of me I couldn’t find out where it was coming from.

One day I was putting up pots and pans and trying to figure out how to get all my pans into this small setup of a kitchen, and my nose came in close contact with the cabinet door. BINGO! There was the smell. It made sense that the smoke was infused in the cabinets. I still was contemplating kitchen design, so I didn’t know if I was going to replace cabinets, painting existing ones, or strip and refinish.

And that’s where the primer came in. Zinsser Odor Killing Primer. It will kill existing odors, including those from pets, tobacco, and fire. It’s great for wood sub-floors, cabinets and walls. It applies white (kind of translucent) and then dries clear. It dries in 45 minutes, and it has very little odor. It’s water-based, so it cleans up with soap and water. But this is the best part. It sticks to shiny surfaces. I didn’t have to sand my cabinets. I made sure they were clean, but that was it. I just primed the cabinet door and didn’t worry about the cabinet box. It sealed in the smell and Mr. Y and his history of smoking was finally gone.

Zinsser makes other special primers. Mold Killing Primer will kill existing mold, mildew, and odor causing bacteria. So if you have an area that constantly has light mildew, like the bathroom, you can just paint over it and seal it off. If you have a bath or kitchen cabinet that had a leak, mildew shows up because it’s hard to dry it out. Seal it off with Mold Killing Primer, and that will be the end of it. OK, I am also assuming you also have taken care of the leak, so you have no more mildew.

If you haven’t sent me an email recently and you have a question about a product that you want me to put on my radar, shoot it to me. I have two trips planed, and I want to find something just for you. I am also going to do interviews while I am at the shows. I will have them on the website.

Now to the email …

Question:77彩票网app I have a stucco wall connecting to my stucco house at and a 90-degree angle. Due to the movement of the Houston ground, a gap has developed between the house and the wall. What is the best product to repair the gap? I believe I saw a recent article on Rockite, would that be a solution or is there something what stays more flexible? The gap is about 1 cm.

Answer: Rockite is not flexible so it’s not the right product. I recommend that you use Slab made by Sascho. It’s flexible, and it will span the small gap. That way if the house moves with different temperatures, the gap will not open up again. If you can’t find it … call me.
