Planned Pearland stadium sign will aim to please both Eagles, Oilers
The Pearland school district is working on $6.535 million in renovations to its football stadium, including a new sound system and plans for an electronic sign that will fit the facility’s role as home field for both Pearland and Dawson high schools.
77彩票网appThe bond-funded work includes improvements to the front-facing facade, $170,000 replacement of the sound system and revamping of the press box.
“This project began in November and will be finished in August 2020 in time for the football season,” district spokeswoman Kim Hocott said.
77彩票网appThough it’s officially called Pearland ISD Stadium, the facility is commonly known as “The Rig” in reference to the Pearland High School Oilers who play there. However, Dawson High School, home of the Eagles, calls the stadium home, too, and school district administrators said the planned new signage will reflect that.
The stadium, which opened in 2001, has been the stage for fierce battles 77彩票网appbetween the two teams.
“We’re looking at an electronic sign to differentiate between the two schools,” Hocott said. “’Pearland ISD Stadium The Rig’ for Pearland High and ‘Pearland ISD Stadium The Nest’ for Dawson.”
Hocott said the decision to install the signage makes sense.
