A pair of area teams are on the move according to the preliminary UIL realignment release Monday.

Every two years, the state’s University Interscholastic League realigns districts based on student population. For the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years, Fort Bend Kempner is dropping from 6A to 5A while Lamar Fulshear is moving from 4A to 5A. They will be joined by the latest school in Katy ISD, Jordan High School.

The Jordan Warriors are eligible to begin varsity competition this fall in cross country, golf, tennis, track, swimming and wrestling. The school will add baseball, softball, basketball, soccer and volleyball at the varsity level for the 2021-22 scholastic year. The Warriors will play sub-varsity football until 2022-23, when the next UIL realignment takes place.

Its new home will be District 10-5A, which includes Fort Bend Hightower, Katy Paetow, Richmond Foster and Rosenberg Terry. Rounding out the district are Angleton, Manvel, Houston Milby and Houston Wisdom. The district is in Class 5A Division I.

Lamar Fulshear will lead District 13-4A behind to compete in District 10-5A in Division II. Fulshear joins fellow Lamar CISD school Lamar Consolidated in the district. Other schools in the district include Bryan Rudder, College Station A&M Consolidated, Huntsville, Montgomery and Montgomery Lake Creek.

Among the big changes in Class 6A, Richmond George Ranch will move into District 20 from District 23. District 20 is an all Fort Bend County district including Austin, Bush, Clements, Dulles, Elkins, Ridge Point and Travis.

Strake Jesuit remains in District 23-6A along with Alief ISD schools Elsik, Hastings and Taylor, and Pearland High and Pearland Dawson. District newcomers will be Alvin High and Alvin Shadow Creek.

Basketball districts

Class 5A has different districts for the basketball and volleyball.

District 24-5A will be mostly a Fort Bend County one with Hightower, Kempner, Marshall, Willowridge, Fulshear, Roster, Lamar Consolidated and Terry being joined by Angleton out of Brazoria County. The district is the same for basketball and volleyball.

Road warriors

Katy Paetow will face a new slate of district foes on the basketball and volleyball courts. Competing in District 19-5A is being paired with Brenham, Bryan Rudder, College Station High, College Station A&M Consolidated, Magnolia High, Magnolia West and Waller.

College Station High, A&M Consolidated and Bryan Rudder are all more than 70 miles away in District 19.

The cutoff for 6A schools is 2,220 students. Kempner had 2,263 students in the last realignment in 2018 but the student population stands currently at 2,042 students according to figures from Fort Bend ISD.

Should a district have an issue with the realignment and placement, it has until Feb. 14 to issue an appeal with the UIL.
